3D Printed CNC Machine

The Root 3 Lite is base from the R3 standard version but one a smaller desktop size footprint. R3 Lite uses 20mm box section instead of the 25mm box sections used on the Root 3 and Root 2 machines. It is aim toward the light works loads than the its bigger brother but dont let the small size fool you – this machine is very capable.
Key design decisions:
1- use only NEMA 17 stepper motors – I wanted to try and keep this machine fairly standard to easy new comers to the CNC arena.
2- Use standard 3d Printer parts
3- lighter weight Carriages – I would like to try and turn this into a 3D printer in the future.

I have now opened up the Root CNC store, I am still learning about all this stuff so please bear with me. Until I know what/ if there is a demand for Root CNC related stuff I shall start small and see how it goes.

Currently the site will only accept PayPal, it’s the easiest and safest way in my opinion. You can pay be card but you would require a PayPal account.

Image above is the most recent Job I did on my machine – Milling a roof panel from 35mm plywood! total time was 20 ish mins.
A new machine is planned! its still in development but I am too excited and seeing as we have hit the 3000 members on Facebook, I thought heck why not and share with you guys and what I have been working on. This machine is not indeed to be a chip making machine but rather a smaller, compact version of Root 3. its going to be called ‘Root 3 Lite’, its aim toward the smaller desktop sized machine aimed at PCBs and woodwork. it is quicker to print and also easier to assemble but most of all slightly cheaper to build!
R3 Lite WIP
R2.1 I would say is pretty much there and the WIP mark should be released! However – name of which shall be changed to Root 3 rather than 2.1 this should help any one with the version numbering and also a seems a far better machine than R2.
